Abstract
Hematology has much to offer in the diagnosis and treatment of many oral conditions. Blood has occupied the attention of many scientists for hundreds of years. Their observations at first were crude and their interpretations were somewhat colored by folklore. Eventually, developments in the different fields of science revealed its infinite complexity. It also came to be appreciated that many disease states produce typical changes in the composition of blood. Some of these changes affect the chemical composition of plasma and other the cellular elements. Any single measurement of the components of blood represents only a momentary glimpse of an ever-changing state. The author has attempted to present the significant effects of these changes in the cellular elements and composition of plasma upon the oral cavity.
