Abstract
Economic development requires certain costs; likewise lack of development or underdevelopment incurs other costs. These costs to the economy are partially reflected in estimates of the economic costs of high infant and child mortality rates. These estimates concern the cost of feeding, clothing and housing children who die before reaching the age at which they would contribute to the national product. (TRUNCATED)
